About Balance of Fitness

Teresina Goheen founded Balance of Fitness to bring clients the benefits of highly personalized instruction in Gyrotonic, Pilates, and personal training. We offer private sessions to help you best reach your fitness goals while working at your own level, be it athlete or beginner. We also teach group Gyrokinesis classes that are challenging and fun. Our private sessions and classes are held at several convenient studios in the San Francisco area.

We welcome clients with a variety of goals, from professional athletes and dancers enhancing their training to those looking to try a new workout. We also work with physical rehabilitation clients who can benefit from Gyrotonic. Our energetic and positive teaching style grounds clients in the fundamentals while motivating them to discover new capabilities. As they improve strength, coordination, and flexibility from bodywork practice, clients often discover a greater sense of physical and mental well-being in their daily lives.

About Teresina Goheen

Teresina Goheen brings exensive experience in Gyrotonic and professional ballet to Balance of Fitness. She is passionate about sharing the benefits of bodywork with clients at all fitness levels, from those seeking to become more comfortable in their bodies to professional athletes and dancers.

Teresina’s clients benefit from her expertise in several disciplines. She is certified in Gyrotonic, Gyrokinesis, and on all Gyrotonic equipment, as well as in Pilates. Building upon a long and successful dance career, she earned a BA in Dance with an emphasis in kinesiology and nutrition from San Francisco State University. Her broad experience allows her to offer a holistic approach tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals.

Teresina’s background in professional ballet inspired her bodywork career. She danced with many companies including the acclaimed Tulsa Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet and Ballet Hispanico, and performed with Michael Crawford in the musical EFX. Merging artistry with an adventurous spirit, she also worked with the Siegfried and Roy Show and traveled around the world as a cruise ship dancer. She realized that the Gyrotonic Expansion System® greatly contributed to her success, and as her own Gyrotonic practice deepened, so did her desire to share its benefits with others.

Teresina uses her creative passion to train and motivate Balance of Fitness clients to achieve the positive results they want. Her reward is seeing them exceed their goals and experience greater well-being.

About Catherine Slavonia

Catherine Slavonia was trained at the SFB for four years and the School of American Ballet for two, before joining the NYCB. She was in the NYCB for 10 years.

After retiring from dance, Slavonia received her BA in history and art history from Stanford University after which she taught ballet at Stanford University’s Dance Department for 5 years. She has curated numerous exhibits on dance and dance history for universities and museums in the Bay Area, contributed research to various dance history books and has done research for the Balanchine Trust.

She lives in SF with her husband and two children.
